'Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S/WHS)' and 'Working with Diverse People' Training - Friday 09 September 2016

On the morning of Friday 09 September 2016, ANAV collaborated with a professional senior Registered Nurse currently furthering her studies within Holmesglen.

Together, we were able to introduce a new training session that was available for all our current staff members covering 2 very important topics within the Aged Care Sector

During this OH&S refresher course, staff members were able to better understand more about the following key points

  • What is OH&S/WHS?
  • Legislation Components
  • Documentations
  • Employer and Employee Responsibilities
  • Chemical Handling

All 21 attendants to this session were very interactive and open about their own individual experiences within various health care sectors. The session is very important to all health care workers to ensure a safe working environment and clear responsibilities for each individual within the workplace.

The training also extended to touch on the topic of 'Working with Diverse People'. As Melbourne is a multicultural country with more upcoming CALD-specific facilities in the sector. This training informed our staff members about boundaries and duties related to working with clients that have limited command for the English language as well as clients living with differing health conditions

This training aimed to reduce any cultural, health or language barriers that may be in place due to difference in each individual's situation.

Overall, this session was very well received and we hope that it is the first of many training sessions that cover these topics.
